Bell Boating Near Reading: Confidence on the Water at Caversham
Bell boats are wide, stable and almost impossible to tip, making them the perfect first step onto the River Thames for teenagers new to the water at Neptune Explorer Sea Scouts.
A bell boat is a twin-hulled craft with the two hulls joined by a central platform, which makes it remarkably stable and very hard to capsize. That stability lets a small crew of teenagers paddle together straight away, learning to coordinate their strokes and steer as a team without the wobble of a narrower boat. At Neptune it is often the very first thing a nervous newcomer tries, and the confidence it builds carries straight into every other discipline.
Because bell boats are so forgiving, they are an ideal introduction to paddlesport and feed naturally into the British Canoeing Paddle Power and Paddle Start awards. No experience is needed whatsoever. Paddles, buoyancy aids and wetsuits where required are all provided, and every session is run by DBS-checked, qualified volunteer instructors to Scout Association safeguarding standards, with safety cover on the Thames at all times.
Bell boating suits any teenager who is curious about the water but wants a reassuring, stable start, and it is brilliant for building teamwork too. Searching for bell boating near you?
